One day, while listening to Barry and Steven squabbling over a toy
I hear Steven say, I don't want to take time out ... let's bring it to Mom
At that, Barry's think tank comes up with—
A brand new line of reasoning of his own:
If we bring the toy to Mom, she'll put into her closet
Then I'll let you have it first, or you'll let me have it first
So why don't we put the toy in our closet until
We choose who can play with it first
As both boys' brains were well practiced with
Making good use of our problem-solving plan and since
Both think tanks were in synch with a logical, solution-seeking mode
This new twist on our sanity-saving plan
Made as much sense to Steven as it did to Barry, so being that
Both attitudes were positively focused ...
That's exactly what my sons chose to do
And much to my delight ...
This amendment to our plan
Conceived by an eight year old boy and
Agreed to by his six year old brother
Extricated Mom from playing the part of
King Solomon, time and again ... suggesting that
A pair of young minds ...
Which had once been instinctively, thus naturally, attached to
Fighting for dominance and possession
Can most assuredly switch from power-struggling
To problem solving with common sense ... if
Both feel inspired to follow a knowledgable leader
Who thinks in such a positively focused way
As to dive into the deep end of the mind where
Making good use of logical, solution-seeking tools
Makes sense to all concerned!
If asked how this unexpected twist affected me ...
Well, Just picture this mom standing in the wings ...
Smile all a sparkle—pleased as punch!
Next up? Tune in to see how quickly
Our sanity saving plan helped two teens share a car :)
