746. ENSURING THAT PERSONAL VALUES AND PRIORITIES MATCH

As mentioned in an earlier post, earlier ...
I've been visiting my mom, again.
As Mom is 100 years old
I fly across the country to see her, monthly
Why?
Well, just as spending one on one time, daily
With my sons was a top priority when they were young
Spending one on one time, monthly
Became a top priority for me to do, this year, with Mom
The fact that I can financially do this makes us both very happy ...
And if you surmise that my attitudes are positive because
I live a life of ease ... please think again ...
As  you may remember, I experience nerve pain, 24/7
And physical pain creates difficult travel days
Though tis true that travel proves difficult for me
The only way you can tell that anything is amiss
When I'm at the airport, chattering happily away
Is by attending to the fact
That I'm being wheeled to and from the gate ...
If you ask why I chose to write a post about
Prioritizing monthly visits with Mom
I'd say that writing this post offers me a way
To express this fact that I've learned about life:
Though my personal (existential) values remain constant
My priorities in terms of decisions I make
Exist in a state of flux ...
Thus ensuring that personal growth can take place
For example, each time I visit Mom my priority switches
From satisfying my need to write for as long as I'd like
To satisfying my need to spend time with Mom
As you may have noticed, posts written
Over the these past few days
Tend to be shorter than most written when I am home
Having flown home, today
My priority will switch back to writing longer posts, again
And though I've been wanting to write a post concerning
How to make good use of the timer
When children are fighting over sharing a toy
I chose to put off writing a post that may get lengthy, and ...
I'm likely to put off writing that post off, again for this reason ...
I was not the only one who flew home, today ...
My son flew home, as well, to celebrate his birthday
So, my decision, concerning how much time to devote to writing
Over these next several days, will be determined by
How much time he prioritizes to spend with me :)
See what I mean ... About priorities and sliding scales? :)
Though my personal values remain constant ...
The ways in which I prioritize my time exists on a sliding scale
This sliding scale is determined by changes that life offers up, which
Present my spirit with reasons to thrive
As writing a post, concerning the timer and sharing toys
Is likely to grow lengthy
I'll re-priorize my time for this reason:
Though I've not lowered my value of writing
I have grown aware of recognizing the importance of
Re-prioritizing how I choose to allocate my time
Most especially when ...
Time spent with a certain person nourishes my spirit :)
You see, if there's one lesson I've learned well it is this ...
When I deny my spirit nourishment needed to thrive
I'm unable to produce my best in any of life's endeavors ...
And for that reason, making sure to nourish one's spirit
May be likened to
The flight attendant cautioning us
To place oxygen mask on self before ministering to the needs of another ...
And now that my son has returned from the gym ...
Time to enjoy the gift of his presence in my life ...
So nuff said for today :)
