Did I mention that the door to our inner sanctum locks automatically?
This means whoever goes out must knock to come in
At some point, there's a knock while all of us are present
Upon opening the door, we welcome Will's older brother, Jeremy
He's flown in from a neighboring state and plans to stay overnight
Jeremy feels the need to be here and then at home for this reason:
His brother is undergoing surgery for prostate cancer, today
His wife, Marnie, is undergoing surgery for breast cancer on Friday
Jeremy's daughter, who lives in another neighboring state, has been
Experiencing abdominal pain for months with no diagnosis as of yet …
Suggesting, once again—when it rains it pours
Jeremy's presence proves comforting in that
He begins to tell amusing family stories, thus diverting
Our attention for quite some time …
And as hours pass, uneventfully—a good sign on
The day of a serious surgery—
So far so good …

Today, Will and I flew home—writing from the desert, again :)
