While sitting at my kitchen table, enjoying a cup of java with my dear friend, Kaila, she and I were ruminating over that post in which I'd ranted about our nation's downhill trend. At some point, Kaila raised this question: How much power does today's presidency actually wield? And that question led to more:
What blocks the process of progress in our nation?
Who are the pirates—I mean puppeteers—who pull our strings?
When lobbyists say jump, how many in Congress ask how high?
How many double dealers string voters along and hang us out to dry?
Who is running our country?
The people?
The government? (of the people, by the people, for the people?)
Big Brother—er—Big Business? Big Bird?
I'd once thought Beware Big Brother referred to governing bodies.
Oh wait—if congress is in bed with big business then that's still true.
As this conversation wets my whistle to write, I stand up just as Kaila asks: I wonder how much power Obama wields compared with Queen Elizabeth?
Good question.
Where are we heading?
Where do we need to go?
How can we reach turning points before breaking points?
England once ruled the world. So did Rome. Napoleon tried. Hitler, too.
Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. — Henry David ThoreauTruth can't be bought or sold
Truth can't be taught
Truth must be modeled
Whether you see yourself as a role model or not is not in question:
Today's adults role model for tomorrow's leaders
Today's adults must care about the welfare of our nation
Today's adults must believe children deserve a fair shake in life
The opposite of love is apathy
Someone must have said that before me
We have our work cut out for us
If you trust that what I say is true ...
If you'd like to work toward encouraging
Positively focused communication skills
To encircle the globe
Come away with me
I want to hold your hand
