INDEPENDENT THOUGHTS ON THE FOURTH

So where have I been and what have I chosen to do
Over these past several days?

While Celina, Steven and Ravi are enjoying
Five days at our cabin, up north, building a float so as to
Participate in the annual parade that entertains
Hundreds who congregate on both sides of
The main drag that leads toward all of
The festivities, which will abound on
The golf course before families cool off in
The community pool, I, who normally
Enjoy every one of those activities, have been
Relishing a sense of the quiet life that
I’d taken for granted, over recent years, until
Three weeks back when the sudden demise of
Steven’s water heater flooded his house during
The wee hours of night, revealing the presence of
Walls filled with mold to the plumber, suggesting why
My son asked if our guest room could be
His and Ravi’s over the duration of
Their master bedroom, bathroom and
Closet remodel, to which
Will and I replied—of course

And as life has been super busy, that’s
About all I feel like expressing, today, so as to
Relax my mind, which was unaware of how
Deeply over taxed it had felt for many years
And as relaxing feels really good, and as
Feeling really good about myself has been
A personal goal for quite some time
I’m about to relax my brain completely before
We meet my niece and nephew for brunch
Followed by returning home to
Relax, again, followed by enjoying
Spider-Man and an early sup with dear friends
Because the desert is just too darn hot to enjoy
Bar BQ-ing followed by a colorful fireworks display
And though I’ll miss the pyrotechnics
My priority is to enjoy a lengthy, peaceful
Fourth of July weekend with hopes that your holiday, like
Mine, is spent doing whatever pleases you most with
Family and friends as well as enjoying time to relax in between!

A biography devoted to the high minded
Life of Alexander Hamilton in
Readiness to enjoy the play on
Broadway sometime later this year
And having written more than
Originally planned, I’ll bid you
Adieu for today after wishing you
A wonderful day in the company of
Precious family and friends along with
The personal freedom and
Independence that you may crave
