Before I share thoughts about my precious mother
I'd like to express my appreciation for all of you
Who cherished my mom with the depth that she'd so well deserved
Alan, as Mom's care taker
Your tender hearted love eased Mom's last weeks
And you eased our way, as well
Lauren and Mack, your love offered Mom safe haven
At a time when I was in too much pain to take care of her
Will, you offer my heart safe haven, every day
Barry, Steven and David, you, along with all of the grandchildren
Bouyed Grandma's spirit with love
As to our cousins and dearest friends—
Your loving support strengthens us
During this vulnerable time, when
The depths of grief reaches into our very core
On the night when I sat down to write of
My love, admiration and respect for my mom
Here's what came to mind:
Last week, when Mom took a final, serious turn for the worse
Within hours, Will and her grandchildren had flown to her side
If you ask, where each generation of our family learned to value
The loving resourcefulness to draw upon personal strengths
During life's most trying times
We'd surely reply: Our minds, hearts and spirits
Have been immeasurably enriched by
A remarkable pair of role models ...
My high spirited father, Jack, and his precious sweetheart
My mother, Jennie, whose tender heart
Graced the lives of everyone who'd had the good fortune to
Bask in the warmth of her embrace
During this time of immeasurable loss
My mother's strength of spirit inspires us
With the kind of rejuvenating love that regenerates, forever
And we all take comfort in believing that
Mom and Dad are holding each other so close that
The contagious nature of their love will shine as bright as
A sunbeam, warming your hearts and mine, forever
As so many have chosen to speak, today
I'll be brief and offer just one treasured memory:
Twenty years ago, during an exceptionally trying time
My mother was holding me close when I said:
Mom, what will I do without you when you're not here?
At that, my mother smiled softly and replied:
I'll always be with you, Annie, because
When it's time for me to leave this earth
My heart will live within your own
And now that my precious mother ... Jennie
Is with her beloved husband, Jack
We can all take comfort in this blessing:
Our irreplaceable, Mom and Dad
Sweethearts for more than 59 years
Will live on in your hearts
And mine ... Forever ...
I love you, Mom, so much more than words can tell
