601 BIG RED

I am driving my car—circa 1976
We call it Big Red
It is a great big, shiny, brand new
Buick Estate station wagon
Burgandy with simulated wood siding
It is magnificent
When I drive by
Every woman in the 'burbs' sighs
How do I know?
They tell me—I want your car
It seats 9 facing front ...
Every car pooling mom's wet dream
First car I choose on my own
Here's how the sale goes down
Walk out onto the lot
Car salesman approaches "The little lady'
We look at cars
I want to discuss price
He says come back with your husband—
And we'll talk—
Oh really???  Remember Pretty Woman?
Remember—Mistake—Big mistake—HUGE!
His lack of respect for my decision making skills
Has lost my business
Come back with my husband?
Good luck! And good bye!
Do I give him a piece of my mind?
No voice yet in sight
I am woman hear me roar—
But not aloud, not then, not for years down the road ...
Even so, I am no one's fool
Petite I may be—little woman—not
Big Red is bought on the other side of town
I am Woman, roar or not, make no mistake ...
Before I can make my self respect known, aloud
I respect myself, quietly ...deep inside!
