When anxiety from the past feels reason to erupt
This signals the presence of distrust
When distrust
Invades the good health
Of a deeply valued relationship
Common sense suggests it's wise to learn why ...
Otherwise misperceptions may lead to misunderstandings
Which drive such deep wedges into the bonds of friendship
That every layer of a foundation, based in trust, cracks in half
As the catalyst, which causes distrust to erupt
May be subconscious in nature
Tunneling often proves wiser than guessing 'what's wrong'
Each time I tunnel forth, this is the end result:
I gain insight into my relationships with others and myself
However, it's important to note that ...
Gaining insight may not improve every relationship
Because it takes work on both sides to mend bonds of trust
Which have cracked in half
It's important to note
That each improvement is based in both renewing hope
It's important to note
That today's new sense of hope
Proves heartier than yesteryear's false hope in this way:
Whereas yesterday's hopes
Had been based in idealistic channels of thought
My renewed sense of hope runs through channels of optimistic realism ...
And realism saves my spirit from sinking into disillusioned despair
It's important to note
That this mind set of optimistic realism
Is rooted within the self trust that I've worked to develop
It's important to note that self trust makes me aware of
Which bonds of friendship are seriously in need of repair ... and as
My sense of self trust grows more reflective less reactive
Today's positively focused, realistic attitude
Strengthens my patience and resilience to the point that ...
Tis hard for disappointment to shake me from my present, productive path
Though we are familiar with the phrase: parent tapes
What of our own tapes, which may be seriously out of sync
With changes that have been taking place
Before our eyes—for years ...
What if, blinded by denial, each step toward major change
Has gone unnoticed until someone, who says ENOUGH!
Finally, chooses to walk a path separate from your own?
Want to nip anxiety in the bud? Want loved ones to stay close?
Tunnel toward old mind sets, which have, in truth, expired, long ago
And having said that
I'm off to take a nap
So that when I awaken
And go to the movies to see a comedy
With a friend
Who has a knack for making me laugh
I don't make the mistake of
Sleeping through
Some of life's most fortunate moments!
