What might you fear?
Might that person personify
Truths, too fearful to confront
Concerning the state of your relationship
With that person
Or perhaps
Your relationship with—yourself?
If that person draws near
Differently from ever before
What might you do differently
In hopes of holding this loved one
Closer today than yesterday?
Perhaps two time out chairs are needed
On both sides
One for anxiety
One for defense mechanisms
Which mess with clarity
And thus, serve no purpose, today
Other than confusing priorities, all around
Knowing how hearts constrict
When anxiety converts into negative energy ...
And knowing how sad it feels
When frost freezes love in a limbo-like place
Why not work toward retrieving trust
Which has been lost on both sides
By acknowledging the fact that
Misunderstandings tend to mount up
Negative attitudes to melt down, at long last
Then perhaps we may warm to the fact
That every story has two sides
And perhaps, upon embracing the truth as a whole
We can steam the seams
Of lasting friendship, together,
By figuring out why yesterday's hugs
Had been half hearted, at best
You see, saving 25% at Macys is wise
And saving 50% is better yet
However, saving love for a rainy day makes no sense at all
So if opposites attract until they repel
And if words come more easily to one than the other
And if actions speak louder than words
Then how might you feel about
Trying this experiment on for size:
What if we choose to make every hug we give
As warm as the hug our hearts long to receive
And perhaps in this way
Body language may inspire each mind
Which has tired of skating over thin ice
To take a leap of faith toward solid ground, at long last
And once this train of thought
Has had time to simmer in our minds ... perhaps
Trust may unstick tongues from that frosty pole
So that relationships, stuck in a chilly place, over long
May feel so safe
As to tackle conflicts more securely
And thus, less defensively, than ever before
And as tomorrow is Sunday ... game day ...
Perhaps it's time to turn losses around
By tackling the powers of *Déjà vu ...
