1382 INTRO TO MY INEXPERIENCED ADVENTURES INTO PARENTING Part 16

1989
Before introducing Margaret Meade
Let's take a moment to rewrite the scene in Eden as though
Penned from a woman's reflective perspective:

6000 B.C.
Eve, being of a curious mind
Awakens early, one morning
With a hankering to adventure, hungrily
Ever more deeply into the garden while
Adam, sleeping late, knows full well
That the woman he loves above
All other creatures will surely
Return in time to feed his hungers as
Has been true ever since
She appeared before his astonished eyes, straight
Out of a rib-tickling dream, and
Before he had time to blink twice
This vision reached above his head
To pluck the fruits of her labor from
The tree of knowledge, and
As Eve and Adam had absorbed
Food for thought, concerning
Insight into deeper truth, before
Some guy—who'd most likely been rebuffed—
Had spread the rumor that
A woman's naked desire is akin to
Sinful temptation, This guy's
Defensive attitude had not yet
Brainwashed humanity into
Accepting a falsehood as
God's honest truth, and thus
Did it come to pass that
Adam and Eve had no reason to feel
Subconsciously burdened with
Anxiety, born of undeserved guilt concerning
Their mutual passion as has been true of
Both genders since biblical times, when
Stories had been penned from a
Disgruntled point of view, and thus
Each time Eve returns, after
Venturing out on her own, the siren
Within her psyche feels free to
Come out to playfully
Plant love's magic kiss on
Old sleepy head's lips, which is why
Adam awakens with a smile, knowing that
The come hither look on
The comely face of the woman he loves is
About to invite him to partake in
The same earthy pleasures that
She looks forward to receiving in return
And if an energetic romp through
Your bedroom does not resemble
That which you imagine taking place in
The Garden of Eden then
May I respectfully suggest that
The time may be ripe to revamp
Your rule book, thus ensuring that
Fun and games at your house reflects
Both sides taking turns until
Everyone wins ... oh yes—
One more thing—hopefully
You've noticed that no snake
Has been cast in this story, because
Written from a woman's perspective
Neither Adam nor Eve had reason to feel
Confused, guilty of wrong doing or vilified
While doin' a what comes naturally—
On the other hand, that doesn't mean
They lived happily, ever after—I mean
One story follows another, and
Both you and I know which story follows the first
(In case of a brief lapse in memory
Just glance up at the title of this post)

2015
Having been raised by an open minded father, renown for expressing his opinion concerning topics that most 'proper' folk had been taught were taboo, I was blessed with the knowledge that sex, sanctioned by marriage, would provide me with deeply pleasured experiences, so when it came time to parent three teens of my own, I made it my business (literally) to teach my sons to embrace a healthy respect for women in all aspects of life, which includes the development of healthy sexual appetites.

Unfortunately, I must admit to this fact:
Each time I broached this subject, after my sons hit puberty, at which time they'd 'adopted' society's narrow minded opinion that listening to an experienced parent, imparting sexual knowledge, was taboo, so whenever common sense compelled my intelligence to impart some portion of the power of knowledge that I'd inherited from Eve (for example: info about responsibility, sensitivity, contraception and Aids prevention) I’d find myself in pursuit of whichever son had been seen covering his ears while running out of the room; in fact, I recall recapturing one son’s attention when, laughingly I'd chased after him saying:

1991
For heaven sake!  Didn't I raise you to participate in these conversations with an open minded attitude?  What in the world have you been learning in high school that's brain washed you into feeling that gaining insight from me is suddenly taboo?  The next  time I raise you and your brothers, we're going to live in Samoa, and as that statement, left dangling in the air, arouses my son's curiosity, he (whose laughter had been as good natured as mine) stops in his tracks, and turning to face me, he asks: ‘Why Samoa?'

In response to my son's well-timed question, I reply:
Renown anthropologist, Margaret Meade, made a study of sexuality in Samoa, where she found very little in the way of repression, and here is the insight that she offered, concerning why that proved true:  When a young boy arrived at a certain age, he was taken under the wing of an older woman, who showed him the ropes of experiencing nights of erotica so that upon taking a young girl as his wife, he, feeling knowledgeably empowered, would freely choose to pleasure his virginal bride …

At that, my son, spins on his heels and covering his ears, runs away, again, exclaiming:  Sex with older women?  Oh Yuck!  That’s gross!

To which I reply:  Not gross, at all!  Brilliant!

Too bad that, eventually Western missionaries clothed the Samoans' naked pleasures in the same embarrassed, guilt-ridden shame that makes youngsters, who people our great, educated (?) nation, run away from sage advice when knowledge, concerning erotica, comes from their parents, and if you ask why kids can't imagine their parents pleasuring each other by engaging in earthy acts of erotic behavior ... Well, more about that 'touchy' subject, sometime later ... (Oh—BTW, did I mention that those OLDER Samoan women were most likely thirty years 'young'!)

As for now, let's get back to Annie, Will, Jack and Jill, seen trudging ... forward through thigh-high snow drifts, laughing gaily, until they set foot in the supermarket, where all four jaws drop in surprise as the unexpected meets their eyes ...
