Whenever my extended family gathers for joyous or grief-struck occasions
Shades of denial fly open inside my head, beckoning my conscious sense of
Awareness to peep into windows where soulful truths (concerning
Myself or my loved ones) to which I'd been blind, are clearly revealed
And thus, in the aftermath of each event that draws us together
I seek to spend quiet time in objective reflection in hopes of
Reaping the reward of acknowledging another growth spurt, each of which
Leads my think tank toward embracing an ever deepening
Sensitivity toward listening to opposing viewpoints with
A growing sense of emotional maturity that ultimately serves
Our entire family well, because one positive change is
Known to lead to more, and if you ask what makes me believe that
Today's emergent insight, highlighting the importance of seeking to
Grow ever more self aware, is undeniably, consistently true, I'd reply:
Mother Nature blesses each of us with the potential to develop
A widely diverse set of personal powers, which over time
Effect positive changes that electrify our senses, thus magnetizing
Our think tanks toward focusing inward in hopes of enhancing
Self awareness to gain insight into situations, which, at first glance
Prove so highly complex as to baffle and boggle even
The most logically steadfast, well educated brain ... and if
